Once you determine your goals and put together a plan to achieve them, the next step is to forget about your goal.  That’s right, completely forget about your end goal.  Why?  Because if you focus on your goal you’ll be more concerned about how far away you currently are from it.

I often reference goal achievement to taking a road trip, if your destination is 6 hours away you don’t constantly think, “oh my goodness I have this long drive ahead of me it’s going to take forever.”  No, instead you gas up your car, set the GPS, turn on the music or audio book (my personal preference), and you just drive enjoying the scenery along the way.

You must do the same thing while you’re on your weight loss journey. Instead of focusing on your goal or how long it’s going to take you to reach it, focus on the journey to get there more importantly the work to get there.  You may be asking, what do I mean by “focus on the work?”  That simply means focusing on doing the right things one day at a time.

The right things consist of eating healthy meals 3 – 5 times a day and drinking plenty of water to flush out the toxins in your system.  If you’re just starting out on your weight loss journey, focus on eating one healthy meal a day for 7 days (i.e breakfast).  Then as the weeks progress add one healthy meal to your daily routine, over the course of just 3 weeks you will have established a 3 healthy meal eating habit.

I can promise you that if you focus on the WORK the results are inevitable.  It’s the same thing with weight gain, you don’t become overweight in a matter of days.  It takes months and years of neglect, eating fast foods, fried foods, sweets, drinking sodas, etc. for fat to build up to unhealthy levels.  At that time your focus was on “convenient” and/or comfort foods, there is a wise saying that says, “what you focus on becomes your reality.”  So by simply focusing on day to day healthy eating habits you will undoubtedly reach your weight loss goal.

When I was on my weight loss journey, I didn’t focus on losing 50 pounds that just ended up being the result of my daily routine/focus.  I simply got rid of the garbage in my cabinets and refrigerator, worked out at least 5 days a week, and over the course of six months I ended up losing 50 pounds.  I honestly didn’t have a “weight loss goal,” I just wanted to be proud when I looked myself in the mirror with my shirt off.
