Before you begin a weight loss program/quest, neglecting to do this one thing can make all of your efforts for naught. Continue reading to learn why it’s so important. It can be a little disgusting and inconvenient when you are detoxing or cleansing.
Your body will show signs that you have built up toxins that can affect your fitness and health. Some key indicators of having a toxin build up are that you feel sluggish and stressed. Your body may experience continuous aching, diarrhea, constipation, and feelings of clumsiness. Rapid weight gain and the inability to lose the excess weight can also be signs of having toxins in your body.
These toxins are found and stored in your fat cells, there are particular organs in our bodies that handle waste. These organs play a vital role in the detoxing process to maintain a healthy body. The 3 major organs that handle waste are listed below:
- Liver – is the organ that recycles unwanted chemicals and is the first line of defense against toxins in your liver. It acts like a filter and prevents harmful toxic substances from entering your blood stream.
- Kidneys – they’re always filtering the blood and getting rid of toxins in the form of urine. Drinking plenty of water helps your kidneys function well.
- Colon – contains bacteria that produces healthy and unhealthy chemicals. It’s main role is to flush out toxins before they can harm your body. It is said that we have 10 pounds or more of waste that just resides in our colon.
Why Is Detoxing Important?
For any weight loss program to be successful you should detox your body first. This provides a “clean slate” for the healthy foods to be absorbed. Otherwise you’ll be simply putting new furniture on a dirty rug. Detoxing also jump starts your weight loss because you’re cleaning your colon, which as I mentioned can have 10 pounds or more of waste residing on the colon walls.
There are many options out there to detox your body, from teas, to pills, to drinks, and even every day foods that are high in fiber. I would be careful of which you choose, some of these options can remove important nutrients from the body and place it into starvation mode which actually slows your metabolism. Other side effects are dehydration, fatigue, dizziness, nausea, and possible colon damage.
I suggest utilizing a food based detox or even an all natural detox tea, these options are less brash on the body and yield a better result. Also, look to detox over a 2 – 3 day period versus a one day cleanse. The amount your body will detox just depends on how bad your diet has been in the past and how much junk you have remaining your system.
Once your body has fully detoxed then it is safe to begin a healthy eating lifestyle, think of detoxing your body as hitting ctrl+alt+delete and rebooting your system fresh. Dr. Oz has a really great 48 hour food based detox that can be found here. The shopping list for that detox can be found here.
I would love to hear about your experience after trying this detox program or even some alternative detoxing methods that you have had success with. Leave your comments below.
